The plantation homes are iconic to the southern states, and the Belle Meade Historic Site certainly has enough history within it's walls to give you a fascinating family day out in Tennessee!
The history goes back to before the plantation was even built, when Native tribes used the meadows and the woodlands in the area as a place to hunt. Then, European settlers came through, and the area became a trade route in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Eventually, the Belle Meade mansion was built in 1853, and this became home to give whole generations of the one family! And now, families like you can explore this amazing mansion and grounds, and see what life was like over a century ago!
When you book your tour at the mansion, you will be taken round by a costumed and trained guide who will tell you all about the plantation's amazing history (and it's a great time to ask questions!). It's not just the plantation that you get entry too, though! There are plenty of other historic buildings on the grounds which are there for you to explore. The carriage house, horse stable, gardens, and even a mausoleum and a log cabin are all there with history waiting just for it!
Then, once your tour is finished, parents you will love this - free wine tasting! The kids can enjoy the gardens and the gift shop!
It's a fascinating place to relive history. It's great for the kids imagination too as they can see what they think life would have been like living in a plantation such as Belle Meade. They might have loved it!
A great way for the family to spend time together.
