There is SO much history in Louisiana, especially when it comes to those iconic plantation homes. So why not make a stop at Ardoyne Plantation too!
Built in 1894, this unique home is so special, it's even being considered by the National Register of Historic Homes, thanks to it being one of the most elaborate remaining examples of rural Victorian Gothic architecture in the entire state!
A visit to Ardoyne Plantation will really feel like you are stepping back in time through the pages of history! It's a national treasure that you have to see yourself to really appreciate.
The historic home is open for guided tours, and is filled with original family furniture and antiques. Kids can see antique gifts, needlework, pottery, paintings, and even dolls! There are even plantation workers pay tokens.
There is SO much to learn about it's history, and during your tour you might even speak to the direct descendants of the original owners, who have a lot of stories to tell!
Make sure you look around at the actual architecture of the plantation too. It's fascinating. There are original tiles, as well as the original sugarcane plantation office. There are amazing hand-carved fireplace griffins, and hand-stamped wallpaper!
Kids - can you just imagine the sounds and smells that would have been coming from this plantation in it's hey day?
There are set guided tour times that you can just join, and other times available via appointment, so why not learn about history in the best way possible - right where it happened!
