Who loves history? We certainly do, and what better way to learn all about it than at a place where it all actually happened! Angels Camp Museum is all about bringing to life the extraordinary stories of the past, and the history of Angels Camp is certainly fascinating!
This family friendly museum can be found on 3 acres of the historic Angels Quartz Mine site, and is brilliant for kids to learn. It's dedicated to giving an understanding of the gold country history of not only Angels Camp, but also of the Mother Lode region.
The Angels Camp Museum is actually home to one of the largest collections of carriages and wagons in the entire nation - how impressive is that!
When you visit, you can explore the beautifully landscaped historical park with it's outdoor exhibits, before heading indoors for more!
There are guided tours offered daily which are great for groups, otherwise you can enjoy a self-guided experience. You can stroll through exhibits that will teach out all about Medicine in the Gold Rush, and even an exhibit all about that brilliant man named Mark Twain.
Kids always love looking at the two steam train traction engines, and exploring the mining equipment such as the overshot water-wheel (still in it's original location), as well as ore carts, a hydraulic monitor drills, and even a working model of a stamp mill!
Make sure you don't miss the Altaville Schoolhouse, which is one of the oldest and best preserved little red schoolhouse in the entire state of California!
History awaits at this fascinating museum at Angels Camp!
