The USA is made up to so many cultures, which makes it so special! The traditions, the foods, the way of life - it's a melting pot of the world. So why not have a museum dedicated to one of those cultures!
The American Swedish Institute is a fascinating look at not only another culture, but history too.
The building itself is amazing, and a very historic house. Originally built in the turn of the century to show off the wealth of the newspaperman Swan Turnblad, it's now a great museum where you can explore the institute that was set up in 1929!
Tis 33 room mansion is a museum in itself, filled with amazing examples of early 20th century chateauesque architecture.
Now, this majestic two story grand hall and carved stone and woodwork is filled with exhibit galleries that can teach kids a range of topics that relate to the Swedish influence in America.
There are exhibits on art, and how the Swedish culture mourns. There are paintings, and quilts, and even how the Nordic Christmas celebrations are held.
Some of the exhibits are temporary, so there will always be a reason to head to the American Swedish Institute, and more new things to see and learn!
Of course, there is the primary collection within the institute that is filled with artifacts and documents that preserve the cultures of not only Swedish America, but Sweden too.
A fascinating culture filled day out in Minnesota!
