The Alaska Aviation Museum is located in the heart of Alaska aviation, as the museum can be found on the south shore of Lake Hood, which happens to be the busiest seaplane base in the entire world! This base has over 87,000 takeoffs and landings each year - how amazing is that!?
(Then half-mile away you also have Ted Stevens International Airport, which is the air crossroads of the world. After your visit, you can enjoy watching takeoffs and landings right from the museum!)
Once you get inside the Alaska Aviation Museum, you'll find one of the finest displays of Alaskan aviation history through their various exhibits, along with a host of interactive displays.
You can learn stories of people and events that shaped aviation history through memorabilia, photographs, films and actual artifacts from personal collections of Alaska’s great pioneer aviators! It's an amazing museum where kids can be inspired, and hear stories of heroes who came from so many different backgrounds and situations.
The exhibit galleries tell over 100 years of history - that's quite a lot to take in! They cover the evolution of Alaskan aviation from 1913 to the present. It's an aviation museum after all, so of course there are over 20 vintage aircraft to see with your very own eyes! They are pretty impressive in person, aren't they!?
Also at the Alaska Aviation Museum are flight simulators to use so you really feel like you're piloting a plane, and a Bush Pilot gift store to shop in!
Get ready for take off kids, we're off to the Alaska Aviation Museum in Anchorage!
