Are you ready to experience life in New Orleans in the mid-19th Century? You can do just that at the 1850 House, part of the Louisiana State Museum collection!
Very few places give you the chance to really experience the lifestyle of those who walked before us over 150 years ago. The 1850 House is one of those rare places, offering families a glimpse of upper-middle-class life in antebellum New Orleans.
This is because the residents who lived in this property never remained there for long, so it's a collective view which works really well.
In fact, this period in time was the most prosperous period of the city's history!
The 1850 House isn't representative of one specific family, but rather it reflects the overall prosperity, daily life and taste in The Big Easy (kids, that's New Orleans!)
The house is furnished with decor and art that reflect the era, including Old Paris porcelain, New Orleans silver, and a number of notable paintings and furnishings that will transport you back in time.
Located near the iconic Jackson Square (which you need to explore also!), you really feel like you are part of such a rich history - just imagine the stories those walls could tell if they could talk!
