Traditional Huron Onhoua Cheteke Site is an authentic recreation of a Quebec Indian village which offers visitors the opportunity to discover the history, culture and the lifestyle of the Hurons. Tours show visitors how foods were preserved, how chores were done and what everyday life was like. The tour also offers an explanation of how the Huron’s way of life differed from other Indians.
A figure in period costume will be your guide as you explore the site. Learn all about an age-old lifestyle, visit the giant teepee, longhouse and drying huts too. The storytellers will recount some tales and legends to you and you can enjoy watching how snowshoes and canoes are made. There are lots of different workshops to participate in with the whole family and is a real sensory experience!
The onsite restaurant serves the authentic cuisine of buffalo, deer, caribou and fish. (A vegetarian menu consisting of traditional vegetables is also available.) Activities such as the: peace pipe ceremony, traditional dances, canoe rides are sure to enthrall adults and children alike. Tours are in French and English and can be customized. It is open evenings and the gift shop sells traditional crafts.
