Get ready to spend the day in nature at one of the most beautiful parts of Toronto (and the country!) - the Royal Botanical Gardens!
Toronto's Royal Botanical Gardens are actually Canada's largest, with over 2,400 acres of gardens and natural sanctuary ready to be explored!
In fact, the RGB enjoys a worldwide reputation based on its first-class horticultural collection as well as natural lands, and it also offers extensive educational programs and serves as an outdoor laboratory for scientific research and conservation too!
There are so many areas to Royal Botanical Gardens, we don't know where to begin! In fact, it's so big, some of the gardens have their own address!
You have Hendrie Park, which is their largest cultivated garden area. Hendrie Park really does has something for everyone and truly illustrates the diversity of both plants and garden design!
Then you have the historic Rock Garden, which opened to visitors all the way back in 1932! In fact, the Rock Garden is considered THE birthplace of Royal Botanical Gardens. Pretty amazing! This garden embraces sustainable trends in garden design whilst respecting the integrity of its heritage setting. Here kids can marvel in the brilliant perennials with sweeps of inspiring colour and texture across all seasons!
There's also the Laking Garden, which is set on a fertile terraced plain and once a market garden. Laking Garden is home to the Royal Botanical Gardens herbaceous perennial collections, and make sure you check out the belvedere at the end of the entrance path where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the entire garden!
The Arboretum is always a popular stop on any visit, and is more like an English landscape park than a garden. It's here you can see a wide variety of trees and other woody plants up close. (It's alwaysworth noting it is especially beautiful in spring and fall!)
The Royal Botanical Gardens also have a host of nature trails where you can just stroll and take it all in, plus cafes to enjoy some lunch, family fun and outdoor adventure to keep those younger green thumbs even more entertained, so make sure you stop by on your next family day out in Toronto - nature's calling!
