Located on the edge of the Oak Hammock Marsh Wildlife Management Area, the Oak Hammock Marsh Interpretive Centre is a GREAT way for the family to get out into nature, explore a variety of habitats, and spot some pretty cool wildlife!
The area itself is 36 sq km, and is one of the BEST birding hotspots in the entire North America! It's also a great way for kids to explore various ecosystems, You can explore a restored prairie marsh, artesian spring, aspen-oak bluff, and even one of the province's last standing areas of tall-grass prairie.
If you love getting out into the mix of it all, there are 30km of trails just waiting for you to explore, so get those walking shoes on!
The Oak Hammock Marsh is home of around 25 species of mammals, and a HUGE 300 species of birds, as well as fish, reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates.
If you're around during the migration season, watch out for the waterfowl. In fact, you won't be able to miss them as their numbers exceed 100,000 DAILY!
The Interpretive Centre itself is a great place to begin your journey, as there are interactive exhibits that can enhance your visit, as well as a rooftop observation deck, so make sure you bring your camera and binoculars!
It's the best place to arrange some amazing excursions, such as critter dipping, canoe excursions and snowshoe walks!
Daily activities are offered too, including looking for animal tracks in the snow, or catching small invertebrates and looking at them under a microscope.
So why not get out into nature and really enjoy a day of learning, fun, fresh air and wildlife. You might see a side of Manitoba you didn't know!
