Established in 1895, the Niagara Historical Society Museum is dedicated to understanding the history of Niagara-on-the-Lake. The most important aspect of the work of the Society is the maintenance of the Museum collection which began in 1896 and is one of Ontarios most important collections.
Discover the stories of our people, community and events that have shapred the community. For childre, there is a Children's Guide to the Museum to help younger ones navigate. The museum contains over 8,500 artifacts, 41,000 documents and thousands of photographs and books from indigenous settlements to the present day.
The galleries host permanent and travelling exhibitions, including one Our Story, which outlines the history of the community. There are two temporary exhibitions each year, with over 80 engaging programs that are enjoyed by all ages.
There are also school programs which are designed to get student's involved and hands-on with history! It'll allow them to connect to the past in a new way and learn something exciting. There's lots going on at the museum all year round, so remember to check the website before you visit so you know what's happening when and where.
