What better place to learn all about history, than in a century-old factory! Medalta in the Historic Clay District is set against the dramatic cliffs of the South Saskatchewan River in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Already your family day out is impressive!
This 150 acre Historic Clay District was once home to some of the country's most important clay factories, including Medalta Potteries, Hycroft China, National Porcelain and Alberta Clay Products.
Today, this history is being preserved and you can be a part of it. Medalta is an exciting place where cutting-edge technologies meet archaeology and historic restoration meet.
During your day here, you'll visit the innovative industrial museum, as well as contemporary ceramic arts facility, AND art gallery. Today, it's a space that activates community and inspires change.
Kids can experience the museum as they walk the factory floors, and run their hands along the original brick walls. Just feel the stories as you walk through! Kids, can you imagine the sounds, the smells, and the people that would have brought the building to life?
Then, you can move to the contemporary galleries where you can see creations from regional, local, and international artists. Get ready to be inspired!
Make sure you stop in the gift shop too before you leave. Here you can pick up items made by their own skilled artisans!
If you want to really get under the skin at Medalta, check out the three tours you can enjoy, on top of your admission.
So enjoy a history filled day out at Medalta. Learning CAN be fun!
