Did you know that Harrison Mills once had a thriving community living there? Can you imagine what it was like? No need to imagine that hard, because Kilby Historic Site is the place for you to visit if you want to step back in time!
Kilby Historic Site will take you to a place that was once a bustling village. Now, only the General Store is all that remains of this moment in time. The store, kids, was the hub of the town. People used to use it as all sorts of things! It was the post office, hotel, gas station, and even meeting place.
The store was built in 1906, and during your time there, you can experience a fascinating gallery of packaging from the 1920s and 1930s. Your grandparents, or great grand parents, might remember some of them!
Today, interpreters are dressed in period costuming from the 1920s, so you can ask all the questions you like, or even pretend to be in the 1920s too! It's an amazing insight for kids into the early 20th century life in rural British Columbia.
The General Store was even the Kilby family home. They lived just in the back! This area is fully restored, and just as it was when the Kilby family lived there, so you can just imagine the kind of life they had!
With events, restaurants, and a sweet farm to explore, Kilby Historic Site will really give you a trip back into history - and everything you are learning about happened right under your feet! Amazing.
