Haida Heritage Centre at Kaay Llnagaay is an award-winning Aboriginal cultural tourism attraction located in Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands) on British Columbia's northwest coast. It is a magnificent 53,000 square foot cedar multi-complex consisting of five contemporary monumental timber longhouses.
The Centre houses the expanded Haida Gwaii Museum, additional temporary exhibition space, two meeting rooms/classrooms, the Performing House, Canoe House, Bill Reid Teaching Centre, the Carving Shed, a gift shop and a small restaurant/cafe.
The centre was designed to rsemble the traditional oceanside Haida Village that once stood in it's place. The carving house is a open walled space that is filled with large projects that are brought to life by local artists. There's also regular outdoor markets, musical performance and more that all take place here and overlook the pebbled shoreline.
The canoe house is gome to a Haida war canoe and represents an outstanding example of art and craftmanship, so make sure you give it a visit! You'll find art from institutions from all over the world and the museum plays an important role in presrving, collecting and presenting the diverse collection.
