A visit to Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve isn't just a visit into an incredibly beautiful part of Canada, filled with out door adventures - it's an experience in a rich, remote landscape just steeped in spirituality, protected by the Haida who draw on their ancestors for cultural inspiration.
Gwaii Haanas means "Islands of Beauty" in the Haida language, and when you visit you can see why! Gwaii Haanas embodies the essence of the rugged beauty and rich ecology of the Pacific coast. It is a celebration of more than ten thousand years of Haida connection with the land and sea.
For some visitors, this opportunity to witness a living culture, and immerse themselves in nature is a spiritual experience.
The lush rainforests may surprise you, and look up and you might see skies filled with bald eagles. Moss-draped cedars tower above Haida people's ancient carved poles, if you wanted a cultural experience for the kids whilst enjoying outdoor adventure, this is the place to be!
You can spend your days exploring ancient Haida village sites, with century old remains of multi-tiered longhouses. Kids can cruise through the ocean just teeming with wildlife, seeing whales breach, and dolphins ride the bow waves, and perhaps sea lions barking from the rocky outcrops.
You can even kayak up close to wildlife and Haida culture too!
A truly exceptional experience in the Canadian wilderness, that can only be reached by sea or air!
