Fort William Historical Park is an extensive award winning living museum depicting all aspects of early 19th century fur trading and society. Tours, dramas, and demonstrations along with themed weekends, festivals, feasts and concerts throughout the year are held here with the vast majority being suited to all ages.
You can observe traditional craft demonstrations done in character such as boat building, smithing, tailoring and more, plus the more homely demonstrations of period baking and food preparation with samples often available. Workshops are hosted in almost all the of the crafts you can see, so if the kids develop an interest during the visit you know how to take it further.
There's also a night sky and solar viewing too, so you'll get to experience the night sky and maybe even spot a shooting star! Visit the nearby encampment and learn about their traditional lifestyle and culture, as well as spotting local farmers working in the gardens and artisans building canoes!
Whether you're travelling as a family or as school, there's so much to experience and discover, combining the rugged wildnerness and cosmopolitan culture.
