If you had to guess what Canada's very first national park was, what would you guess? If you guessed Banff National Park - you'd be right!
The reason the national park was established way back in 1885, was because they found a natural thermal mineral spring - and the Cave and Basin National Historic Site is right on that very spot, and commemorates the birthplace of the nation's National Park system. Pretty cool!
Here, at this national historic site, the growth and development of the national parks are celebration with fascinating interactive displays, as well as exhibits. These, in addition to a guided tour, allow you to really get hands on with the history, as well as the mineral springs and other features along the boardwalk marsh stroll.
The tour lasts for 45 mintues, and it conducted at a gentle pace so the whole family can enjoy it. On the tour, you see and learn all about the outside territory, as well as the inside.
The park also offer Lantern Tours in the dark, which are a super cool way of experiencing the mountains and the caves!
