Love history? Then why not LIVE it at the Canadian Transportation Museum and Heritage Village in Ontario?
This fascinating experience lets you actually experience history, rather than just read about it. This 25,000 sq foot experience is home to a number of modes of transportation, with some that date back all the way to the late 1800s! You can explore various modes of transport - it doesn't just mean the car, or the train!
How about learning about the horse and oxen-drawn carts, or those fire trucks, or perhaps a 1904 Mitchell horse-drawn hearse? Have you ever wanted to see the OLDEST internal combustion engine that was made in Canada? (Here's a fun fact - it was made back in 1893!) AND it still runs!
There are hot rods, race cars, cariolets, hard tops, convertibles, taxi cabs...and even military vehicles just to name a few. An incredible collection!
Then of course, there is the Heritage Village! This fascinating part of the Canadian Transportation Museum has over a dozen historic buildings, each with a local significance. Each building is from a bygone era, and really lets you use your imagination as you walk around. What kind of people worked here? Who would have used these buildings?
Kids will love to see the one-room schoolhouse - how different is it from theirs today? (We imagine VERY different!) The Heritage Village also has a barbershop, general store and log homes, just to name a few.
For a fascinating trip back through local history, the Canadian Transportation Museum and Heritage Village is ready and waiting - it's a real live time machine!
