Basilique Cathedrale Notre Dame de Quebec is built on the site of the first chapel constructed by Champlain in 1633. In 1674, the church took the title of cathedral. The cathedral bears witness to the history of a whole population and had four governors resting here. You'll be able to see the various works of arts and archivies with interior decoration as a background. The cathedral is the very heart of Old Quebec and welcomes visitors throughout the years. It's one of Canada's historic monuments and is a desgnated World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
The guides will happily welcome you and they provide tours for visitors during the summer season, or you're more than welcome to explore on your own. The place of prayer and celebration welcomes both large and small groups and the Cathedral is a place where concerts and recitals are held throughout the year. There's also the tomb of Saint Fancois de Laval, a large reliquary of Canada's Saints and Blessed and is adorned by a Holy Door.
