The Backus-Page House Museum is a living history museum located in the heart of the Talbot Settlement. The Georgian style house has been restored as closely as possible to its 1850’s state. The museum is maintained and run by the Tyrconnell Heritage Society which is a local independent organization that is dedicated to restoration and preservation of Backus-Page House and surrounding estate.
There are lots of things to learn and do at the museum through educational lessons. There's a toys and games classe, where the room will be filled with over 20 toy and game replicas inspired by the 1850s. Each toy will have step-by-step instructions and you'll get to experience games and tous of centuries before. There's a one room schoolhouse, where your lesson will be transformed with saltes and pencils and you'll have to follow the rules too!
The all about wool class focuses on science and will teach students to understand the difference of fibres. You'll even learn how to make your own thread! There's also quill pen writing, hygeine and laundry, soil and farming, pioneer clothing and much more for an educational and fun day out.
They also hold events throughout the year too, particularly around the festive period, so make sure you keep an eye on their website to plan your visit accordingly!
