Allan Macpherson House was built on the banks of the Napanee River in c. 1826, when it was the first private home to the north of the river. It was the residence of Allan Macpherson, one of the most entrepreneurial and civic-minded citizens of early Napanee, with a finger in just about every pie.
It's a wonderful place to visit for anyone interested in history, architecture and gardens. Allan Macpherson create fine-quality flour shipped to Montreal and England and you'll get to tour his home. Guided tours are available every Wednesday in July and August for a small fee and you'll be able to explore the labour of love to resotre this home to it's original 19th century character. The design of the two-storey house is Georgian and has the typical symmetrical ront and elevations with a sweeping entranceway.
The Machpherson house ramined in the family until 1896, but in 1962 it was restored and is now a gallery space for all history lovers. There are themed programs schedule every July and August and this time is usually really busy with lots of events and acitivities to get involved in for the whole family.
