Shipwreck and Maritime Museum is bursting with thousands of objects that have been recovered from shipwrecks, diving equipment, ship models and more, and some are thousands of years old too!
On your visit, you'll see a display of objects, stories, pirates, smuggling ship models and so much more. The museum displays an 8000 year old material from Bouldnor Cliff and is the only place to see the stone tools, wooden features and more from the site too.
Their shipwreck collection is one of the largest in the country and contains artefacts from wrecks which have been moments in history. Discover more about life on board ships from the Medieval period to the Second World War. There is a seabed scene too which allows you to take a look at what the artefacts would have looked like too as their found condition.
The history of the Isle of Wight has a huge relationship with the sea. The displays show how the ships and shipping have been key to the island through models, paintings and articles and even the local waters.
There are 30 ship models too, submarines and a brief history of diving so there's so much to learn! It's a great place to visit if you're new to the area or simply want to find out more about the history of the place you live!
