Radstock Museum is an award-winning museum which celebrates the history of Victorian Radstock. They have lots of regular events, exhibitions and talks for all ages and plenty of displays and collections to explore.
The museum has a range of permanent displays that tells the story of the life of a Somerset miner and their family, and shows how the communities of the coalfield were integrated. On the ground floor you'll find out all about the local trades and industries which supported the coalmines.
You can explore the reconstructed coalmine through candlelit darkness and you'll learn for yourself how difficult it was for men and boys working in Somerset's narrow coal seams. You'll hear the sounds of their picks and shobels and see the carting boys crawling through the tunnel for an interactive experience.
In the miner's cottage you'll see how the miner's wife managed daily life and you'll get to peer inside the laundry room too! Visit the print workshop, walk through the Victorian schoolroom and get a birds eye view of central Radstock in the days of steam.
They also have lots of events all year round, so make sure to check out the website before you visit so you know what's happening.
