About Parkes Castle

Parkes Castle is set on the northern shores of Lough Gill in County Leitrim. It's a restored castle of the early seventeenth century, and was once home of English planter Robert Parke. You'll have magnificent views over the water, particularly at sunset. 

Start your visit at the visitor centre where the guides will provide you with maps and information that help you make the most of your visit. Take a guided tour and learn about the history of the families that lived here, and what life was like in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Explore the exhibits inside and take a stroll around the gardens. 

You can enjoy a short film which introduces you to the beauty of the surrounding area and stand on the castle walls and look out over the battlements. Imagine what life was like living here! 

You can learn about the strawboys and the local traditions associated with a traditional Irish cottage of the 1900s, and take park in the picture find activity which is great fun for children of all ages. 

They host a variety of events all year round, including workshops anf talks, so check out the website before you visit so you know what's happening.
