Newport Roman Villa was te site of a Roman farmous that was build in the year 280 AD and is open for visitors. It offers likts of popular events all year round and school holiday activity days.
The site was discovered in 1926 and is well preserved and gives a fascinating insight into country life in third century Britain. It has a bath suit with under floor heating and remains of mosaic floors. Sections of the villa have been reconstructed to show the building materials that were used and you can peep into the kitchen and see how a Roman feast is prepared.
Outside, take a wander and discover the plants Romans who have used in the beautiful herb garden. There is an exhibition area too with artefacts that were found durng the Roman times in the Isle of Wight.
You can head out on a villa tour where the staff can help your group explore the bathrooms and learn about Roman life, photo-hunt challenges where groups will work in pairs to locate the artefacts and activity room workshops with hands on activities. They're great if you're visiting with your school class!
