Natural History Museum at Tring is a fascinating day out to explore the history of the natural world! There are over 4,900 specimens to explore and lots of hands on activities for all ages.
In Gallery 1, you'll find the giant polar bear! The specimen is thought to have provided the inspiration for Raymond Briggs' book The Bear too! You'll also find a Madrill, Emperor penguin that was collection on an Antarctic expedition between 1839 and 1843 and ay-aye which is beleive to bring bad luck!
Gallery 2 is a temporary exhibiton space, and features the likes of Wildlife Photographer of the Year. Make sure you check out the website before you visit so you know what's featured in this space.
Gallery 3 contained Dressed Fleas and they were purchased i Mexico in 1905. They were handmade by women as a form of folk art and are very rare. In Gallery 5 you'll see the sperm whale's lower jaw, so make sure to take some pictures too! These are just some of the highlights but you'll find lots more in the other galleries too.
There's also self-guided tours which helpchildren to ask questions and discuss animal features. Learn about the Arctic dwellers, discover the charismatic animals that live in deserts and find out more about the endagered species. There's so much to discover!
