The Museum of St Albans is set over three floors and showcases over 2,00- years of heritage and contemporary artworks from across the world and locally too. The changing exhibitions provide a fresh experience every time you visit with something new always to discover!
At the heart of the museum, you'll find the permanent exhibition The City That Went Uphill which maps the development of the area from pre-Roman era to the modern day. It reveals the role St Albans had in the transformative events of British History. You'll learn about the Boudicca's uprising against the ruling Romans and discover what impact the Battle of St Albans had on the War of the Roses.
There also historic spaces to explore including the octagonal courtroom and the subterranean cells. They reveal the dramatic stories of law and order and you'll get to experience what it may have felt like to stand as the accused! Soak up the atmosphere and immerse yourself in the history!
The Assembly Room features stunning Georgian architecture, chandeliers and gold leaf which is breathtaking! With large windows and ceilings which flood the space with light, it welcomes many art installations throughout the year.
There are glazed links on the first floor which provide rooftop views and a basement gallery which houses the museum's flagship exhibitions.
The ground floor also has a learning studio, visitor information point and a gift shop and cafe.
