If you love history and small village charm, you'll love the Hastings Fishermen’s Museum which is a small independent museum dedicated to the fishing industry as well as the maritime history of Hastings!
Here's a heads up - it's a pretty fascinating history!
The Hastings Fisherman's Museum actually opened back in 1956 in the former Fishermen’s Church of St Nicholas. The museum was actually a mission chapel serving the fishing community during the 19th century.
Today, even the building iteslf is worth really taking in, as it's listed Grade II by English Heritage for its architectural and historical importance!
As you explore inside the Museum you'll see with your very own eyes (and be able to visit) the deck of the last Hastings’ sailing lugger Enterprise that was built in 1912.
Kids will also be able to enjoy a large display of photographs and pictures, as well as see model boats along with many other interesting objects that show how events and people shaped the maritime history.
Also at the museum you'll find an external display complete with a variety of boats, and you can even see how Hastings locals used boats cut in half when they had been caught engaged in smuggling! Pretty amazing!
Are you ready to deep dive into Hastings history at the Hastings Fisherman's Museum? We're excited, so let's depart!
