Chiltern Open Air Museum in Buckinghamshire is a great fun and educational day out for the whole family!Ever wondered how a toll gate keeper lived or what type of jobs you might have done in the past? What about how a building was built? With homes, workshops, a farm and even a little tin chapel, they rescue and rebuild buildings from the past to show how life used to be in the Chilterns long ago.The traditional farmstead is a very special place with period farm buildings including a cattle byre with a dairy exhibition, a stable, a granary on staddle stones, a large threshing barn and other surrounding farm buildings. Farm machinery commonly in use on traditional Chiltern farms can be seen around the farm and working in the fields at different times of the farming year. So why not head there, learn something new, and have fun!Go and meet the Chilterns animals in the farm and surrounding fields including a pedigree flock of Oxford Down sheep and lambs, pretty Silver Grey Dorking chickens, very friendly goats and their new heavy horses, Clydesdale Harvey and Shire foals West Winds Samuel and Joshua! The farm team run “Join in on the Farm” weekends during the season so that visitors can meet some of the animals and participate in traditional Chilterns farming activities.
As if all this wasn't tempting enough, they also host special events throughout the year like craft demonstrations, gladiator games, classic vehicle shows, tudor courtrooms, halloween spectaculars, and much more!
