About Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery

Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery is the oldest concentration of Neotlithic tombs in Ireland and is on the list of world heritage sites. You'll find is near Sligo town and theres over 35 passage tombs which were constructed almost 6,000 years ago. 

On you visit you'll find out why Carrowmore was considered the most sacred places and marvel at the skills of the people who built the monuments have stoof here for over five millennia. 

You can hear some of the myths and legends associated with the area and see the tomb of Queen Maeve at the top of Knocknarea. The passage tomb is the central monument and there's prehistoric carvings that you can admire on your way round. 

You can join them at sunrise on 31 October to celebrate the festival of Samhain as the sun rises above a natural saddle feature in the mountains. 

There's plenty of interactive exhibits and guided tours to get the whole familie's imaginations going, and plenty to see and do around every corner. Make sure to bring a camera for some perfect photo opportunities too!
