Bradgate Park is so much more that JUST a park - there's amazing landscapes, beautiful wildlife, and a host of history for you to uncover!
Did you know that over 800 years ago, Bradgate Park started life as an enclosed deer park. Today, Bradgate Park offers families a chance to explore a wild and rugged landscape with some trees that are over 500 years old!
The best place for you to start your journey is at the Visitor Centre. Here, you can pick up information on what to see and do and the park, and tips on how to get around. You'll also find some exhibitions telling the story of the Bradgate Estate along with its fascinating natural and human history!
After all, Bradgate Park offers 830 acres of publicly accessible countryside to explore!
If you and the family don't fancy exploring the hills, the lower part of Bradgate Park is easily accessible. Here you'll find a tarmac carriage-way running through this area, that is suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.
The River Lin runs through the Lower Park and is a beautiful spot to sit and picnic.
Little Matlock also offers an attractive walk to the heart of the Park through the 'Victorian designed landscape'.
Then you also have Old John which is an 18th Century folly that sits on the highest point of the Park and is one of Leicestershire’s most famous landmarks.
Don't miss a chance to explore the ruins of Bradgate House too, which was one of the earliest brick-built country houses in England. Bradgate House was also the childhood home of Lady Jane Grey, who was Queen of England for 9 days in 1553.
We told you Bradgate Park was so much more than a park!
