Bircham Windmill stands in the heart of Norfolk's fields and looks just as it did over 100 years ago! It's considered to be the best still remaining and is the only windmill in working order in the area that's open to the public.
You'll be able to climb the fiver floors up to the fan stage and see the sails and the milling machinery turning. There are information boards and audio boxes as you climb along with quizzes that the children will enjoy! There's a model of Billy Howard too who was the last miller at the windmill and you can listen to his stories.
As well as the museum, there's animals too! Including goats and donkeys that you can stroke and feed using the special food dispensers located at the site. You can also have a go at turning the cogs! You can move all the gears around on the wall and see if you can get all the gears to connect and turn. Have a go at the old till and work out pounds, shillings and pence and weigh your items on the scales and pretend to be a real life shopkeeper!
If you wanted an experience they have a go at bread baking! there's no need to book and you'll be given a piece of dough to create wat you like with, bake it and take it home! It's suitable for children from the ages of two years old and it's a fun experience for parents and children.
Grab a coffee and relax in the film room too which includes films of the mill ranging from five minutes to 45 minutes!
