London's history spans over 2,000 years, and this rich history is apparent when you visit. The new has effortlessly merged with the old.

The City of London core is where the foundations began, and over the years the city has built out to become the Greater London that we know today.

Londinium as London was originally known, was established by the Romans around 47 AD. Around 60 AD the city was destroyed by Boudice and her Icini tribe, but was quickly rebuilt by the Romans.

Although, evidence of a Bronze Age bridge was found near the Thames that dates back to between 1750 BC and 1285 BC so movements in the area go back much further.

The orignal London Wall was built sometime between 180 AD and 225 AD. You can still see some of the original London Wall today, and the perimiter still defines the "city".

Over the past 2,000 years, London really has seen it all. The city has survived fires, plagues, pirates, wars, riots, and attacks.  Today, this strength shows in the buildings, the people, and the spirit. It's a city unlike any other, and it's ready to welcome families like yours!

Museums in London are some of the best in the world, you really could fill your visit with JUST museums! From the amazing Natural History Museum, to the British Museum, kids won't even realise how much of an invaluable educational experience they are having.

With thousands of years of history, you can't overlook attractions such as the Tower of London, St. Pauls Cathedral and Buckingham Palace.

Of course you can enjoy that classic fun too including Madame Tussauds and London Dungeon!

With so many fun things to do in London with the family, you'll soon have that itinerary filling up! So kids, what fun activity do you want to enjoy first?

If you don't have a car in London, you certainly won't miss it as the public transportation within the city is all you need.

The London Underground (or the "tube" as it's famously known) has a number of lines with so many connecting points that you will be able to reach your destination without any issues.

The tube mape (thanks to TFL) is so easy to understand, as every tube line is colour coded. So just look for your station and look for the colour! Most of the central and "tourist" areas offer stations with multiple connections too, so you'll have a number of options to get there.

You can pick up an Oyster card (you will have to pay a small deposit before loading money onto it), but you can also use your contactless debit or credit card now too.

Don't forget those iconic red buses too - yes, the double decker buses still exist! The London bus routes are clearly sign posted and really easy to use - again the Oyster card or contactless are accepted. The drivers are also so friendly that if you have any questions about if the bus is headed where you need - just ask!

Plus, those recognisable London Black Cabs are also a great option if you would rather avoid public transport.

Don't forget too - London is an incredibly walkable city, so if you have comfortable shoes and want to really take in the sights and energy of the city, get those feet moving!

The iconic Buckingham Palace is known throughout the world as the residence of the British monarchs, but it's also the focus during national and royal celebrations, as well as the backdrop to those impressive Changing of the Guard ceremonies.

Buckingham Palace also allows families to actually visit some of the incredible State Rooms when booked on an Exclusive Guided Tour. These run on selected days during winter and spring as well as across a 10 week block in summer.  Make sure you book ahead with plenty of time - these are incredibly popular!

A Fun Day Trip From London!

Luckily for you, one of the most stunning, fascainting and historic cities in the whole of the UK can be found only 90 minutes from London. We are of course talking about the iconic Roman city of Bath!

Lying the valley of the River Avon at only 97 miles from England's capital, Bath makes for a wonderfully easy family friendly day trip which is not only filled with amazing things to do with kids, but also offers an invaluable history lesson too!

The beautiful city of Bath was named after the now famous Roman-built Baths that you can visit during your time there.

Legend has it that Bath was actually founded all the way back in 860BC (yes BC!), however the reality is that no-one actually knows exactly when Bath first began its seeds of life. We definitely know that in 50AD, the Roman's knew the potential in the healing thermal waters, when they built a temple dedicated to Sul, a Celtic god, as well as Minerva, who was the Roman goddess of healing.

Around 10 to 20 years later, a town began to form.

Since then, the city has been witness to so much history. Bath Abbey was founded in the 7th century. Jane Austen changed the litererary world from Bath in the early 19th century. In 1987 that Bath was declared a World Heritage Site.

Today, Bath is a spectacular destination for families to visit, and in 2021, the city received its second UNESCO World Heritage inscription as one of the "Great Spas of Europe".
