There is always something very magical and mysterious about a lighthouse - sitting there all alone on the cliff, waiting to save lives of men and women on the boats that come close to shore. Have you ever wanted to know more about these amazing parts of history?

Welcome to Yaquina Head Lighthouse! Did you know that the lighthouse station was actually built WAY back in 1872? That's a pretty long time ago! It also means there's lots of history to be discovered!

You can learn all about the history Yaquina Head Lighthouse on the tours, as they take you 93 feet up the tallest lighthouse tower in Oregon! Did you know that the lighthouse actually took about a year to built, using 370,000 bricks? Think about how many cool facts you will learn when you're actually there!

Visiting Yaquina Head Lighthouse is a very cool experience for those little explorers. Have they ever wanted to climb the stairs of a lighthouse? Have they ever wondered what it would be like to actually be the lighthouse keeper? Get those questions ready!

The light has been active since 1873, and back in the day the oil was burned from sunset to sunrise. Now, they have electricity which flickers on and off. That's why you always see the lighthouse light flashing!

The tours of this very cool lighthouse are guided, and occur twice a day from Thursdays to Tuesdays. There's an interpretive center too that you can explore before and after the tour.

Get those walking shoes on, and your adventure ready to go, because Yaquina Head Lighthouse is keen to have visitors just like you!

Yaquina Head Lighthouse FAQ’s

The lighthouse staff are preserving and restoring these amazing historical structures, so they are always looking for help and donations!

You can become a member if you love the lighthouses, and you get invitations to events like summer BBQs and behind the scenes tours!)

There is a gift store in the interpretive center where you can pick up some fun items and gifts (and educational ones too!)

The park rangers offer tours for educational groups of all the natural areas of the site, as well as the tidepools, so schedule in advance to get students this very cool experience!

Take bottled water in your bag to stay hydrated after all those steps!

There are steps up the lighthouse, so you do need to be physically mobile. Give them a call to ask about any help you need with special needs.

The hours of the interpretive center at 10am - 4:30pm, and the park itself is open daily 7am - sunset.
