Have you ever imagined strapping yourself into a rocket and shooting off into space, or piloting a great big jet airliner across the planet? We think most kids at some stage have wanted to be an astronaut or a pilot, and at the Virginia Air and Space Center you can get pretty close to feeling what it would be like!
This fascinating museum for the whole family is FILLED with hands-on exhibits that cover all things air and space. Kids can learn all about the history of aviation, so it's education too, and there are over 30 historic aircraft actually there for you to get up close to!
As well as all of that, there are a host of space flight artifacts that you can see, that were all part of the amazing space missions that we have been able to witness in our history!
Did you know that the country's space program actually started right in Hampton, at the NASA reserach center? So you're literally at at the birth of the space age! There are the early years of space exploration to learn about, as well as all the missions since then.
Space Quest is a fun exhibit where you can actually explore our history through interactive exhibit components, and even travel to Mars in a very futuristic transport ship! Ever wanted to land on the moon? Then check out the fun lunar simulator - and train for a lunar mission! How amazing is that!
We bet you'll do a great job!
The Virginia Air and Space Center also have a number of actual aircraft that showcase the 100 year history. There is even a replica of the 1903 Wright Flyer that started the whole aviation industry (and where would we be today without that!)
