Marble is such an important resource in Vermont, so it makes sense that you will find a museum dedicated to this important natural element.

In fact, the exhibitions within the museum not only introduce you to marble itself, but also its connection to science, art AND history!

The Vermont Marble Museum have been presenting the past, present and future of marble as it's used in building materials, amazing works of art, and even the incredible world of everyday uses for over 20 years.

Kids can learn all about the history of marble, and the fascinating ways of guarrying it to the famous places that Vermont Marble is being used, and some might just surprise you!

You can learn about how the marble was used for the Tomb of the Unknown Solider at Arlington Cemetery, and explore the Earth Alive exhibit with hands-on exploration bringing the history of the planet to life.

The Vermont Marble museum is located in central Vermont, just north west of Rutland, off of route 3. Once you get into Proctor, head west across the marble bridge, past the Proctor Library, and continue along the road. At the intersection, head north. The museum will be on your right. It is a blue building with marble in front of it and smoke stacks behind it.

Visit the resident marble sculptor and then try it for yourselves!

The gift shop of course is a place to visit with hundreds of custom-designed items fabricated from Vermont’s beautiful Verde Antique Green marble and Vermont Danby White marble for your home or office.

They offer a full plan for tour-buses, Elderhostel, and school groups to the museum, and offer reduced rates to groups of 20 or more
