At Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve in Florida, you can visit one of the last unspoiled coastal wetlands on the Atlantic Coast. And it’s simply stunning! 

At this popular attraction, you can discover 6,000 years of human history and experience the beauty of salt marshes, coastal dunes, and hardwood hammocks. 

Any trip to the Timucuan Preserve will also include two other landmarks. These are Fort Caroline and Kingsley Plantation.

It’s a the Kingsley Plantation that you can dive into a fascinating history of enslavement and freedom. During the 18th and 19th centuries, many people made their way to Florida, and had to make a living out of two ways of life. It was either owning land, or working on the land. It was on this land that plantations were built, and every single person who lived or worked here played a part in the history.

Then of course, you can visit Fort Caroline. This memorial memorializes the short lived French presence in the 16th century. It’s here you can find stories of survival, religion, exploration, territorial battles and relationship between the American Indians and Europeans. This museum is open 7 days a week, from 9am to 4:45pm
