If you want family adventure in an incredible part of the country, then you might just want to head to Timpangos Cave National Monument!

You can hike your way past incredible vistas to explore the magical and hidden underground world that is the cave system. Inside, where are three incredibly decorated caverns filled with amazing formations, from stalactites to stalagmites. 

It's a great way for kids to learn all about the history and preservation of the caves, as well as the geologic mysteries that you will encounter!

The Timpoanogos Cave National Monument is also a great way for the family to get active, and see some more of nature through the great hiking they have in the area. In fact, your climb to the cave entrance takes you on a hike where you hike over 1,000 feet in elevation, giving you just incredible views of American Fork Canyon as you go!

The best place to start your experience at this Utah National Monument is the visitor center, where you can learn all about the best places to hike, and the caves themselves. If you wanted to enjoy a guided tour, best book ahead of time as they often sell out.

These informative guided tours are 55 minutes long, and restricted to 16 people per tour. If you want to see the caves, the guided tour is the only way so make sure you book!

If you want something a bit more adventurous, you can enjoy the Introduction To Caving Tour where you, your helmet and headlamp will take you along the same route that tours were conducted back in the 1880s. Pretty cool! It's a great way to have that bit more adventure, and to have a great time!

From U.S. 40 or U.S. 189: If you are arriving from Heber City or Provo Canyon traveling on U.S. 40 or U.S. 189, take State Highway 92, passing by Sundance Resort and over the mountainous scenic route known as the Alpine Scenic Loop. The Alpine Scenic Loop is closed during the winter.

Timpanogos Cave National Monument FAQ’s

They love keeping the adventures interesting, so they offer FREE programs to the public seasonally 7pm Friday and Saturday evenings, as well as guided hikes

Make sure you carry plenty of bottled water. For lunch there is the Swinging Bridge Picnic Area where you can enjoy your own lunch out in nature!

Your tour starts and ends at the visitor center, so when you select a time that's when you pick them up at the visitor center, before your mile and a half walk

The visitor center has some gifts and souvenirs that you can pick up to remember your adventure.

The walk to the caves is a tough mile and a half, and no wheeled vehicles allowed. The visitor center and picnic area are ADA compliant

Make sure you book in advance if you want to be guaranteed a tour as they often sell up quickly
