About this activity

Love history? How about heading there in person! The Pioneer Farm Museum has TWO different experiences for you to learn all about history.

The first is the Pioneer Farm Museum itself. Fancy taking a trip back to the 1880s? Let's go! The tour guides will take you on a journey through homesteading in Washington State - how it was over 100 years ago. How different do you think it would have been to how you live now? We imagine quite different!

The 90 minute tour will take you through two homestead cabins that were actually built in the 1880s, and learn ALL about what the families who lived there were like, AND they would have actually built them!

Can you imagine what it would be like if you needed to build YOUR own house?

Kids get ready - there are chores! Yep! But 1880's homestead chores. You can get enjoy grinding grains, scrubbing laundry, churning cream, and even carding wool. The kids of the 1880s would have done them all!

You can even dress up like pioneers, and get your hair curled with an 1880s curling iron.

Then, you can go even FURTHER back into history and experience the Native American part of the museum at the Ohop Indian Village. This museum will take you right back to before the first local contact with Europeans. Now - can you imagine what the USA was like before the Europeans settled?

These 90 minute tours take you through the forest to experience all the same things that native people did in the different seasons. That keeps interesting! From target shooting with bow and arrows, to braiding leather, it's a fascinating insight into life pre-colonization.

History IS fun at the Pioneer Farm Museum!
