Over 200 species of animals are represented across these creatures, which is a great learning experience for the kids. Why travel the planet looking for the animals, when all you have to do is visit Louisiana!
Set on 82 acres, the zoo has a focus on delivering an entertaining, educational program in a manner that is safe for both the animals and all families who visit, while allowing kids to start learning the importance environmental conservation. Which we love!
They are home to those majestic, impressive and grand animals that you know and love, including zebra, bison, elk, gibbons, and so many other creatures from across the globe.
In addition to those beautiful mammals, they also have a number of birds as well as a reptile house. The House of Small is an immersive insect exhibits with fun hands-on experiences for those kids.
For more hands-on fun, make sure you visit the children's zoo, with adorable domestic animals that the kids can get right up close to.
Feeling that Louisiana heat? The Louisiana Purchase Zoo also have the Zoo Oasis which will cool you down! This fun mini water splash feature is a great way to break up the day.
Did we mention there are also fun Safari boat rides too? At only $3 additional cost, kids can make their way around the river, keeping their eyes peeled as to what other wildlife they will find!

It's not just the animals that will need feeding! The Flaming Flamingo cafe and grill offer burgers, hot dogs, nachos, corn dogs, chicken strips and snacks, all for those rumbling tummies! There are even treats too!
You bet there's a gift shop! Kids will love the animal-tastic plush toys, apparel, hats, books and so much more!
They love having students visit, and they also offer the Summer Zoo Camp too!
They sell bottled water in the cafe
Just speak to staff to check about the accessibility of the zoo
Let kids know about the Zoo Rules, like not chasing birds, not littering, and no balloons or straws in the zoo, so they and the animals can have a great time!
