About this activity

They say Rome wasn't built in a day, but at The Getty Villa in Malibu you can certainly get a great idea of what the Roman culture was like in a day!

Here you can get lost in the worlds of Greece, Rome and Etruria (if you haven't heard of that before, best get down there to find out where that is!)

As you wander around, have a look at all the sculptures, and portraits - what does every piece say to you about how they might have lived?  Who do you think was the person that actually crafted it?

Museums are not only great places to learn about the past, but to feel the past - to really get an understanding of not only another culture, but another time.

Their exhibitions rotate so you can always see something new when you go back on your next visit.  They have exhibits specifically on notable people who made an impact on history, such as the Emperors of Rome, and they have exhibits on actual craftsmanships such as glass marking.

They have an incredible 23 galleries devoted to a permanent collection, where over 1,200 works are displayed that date from 6,500 BC to AD 400, (that's pretty much the Stone Age to the fall of Rome!) including artifacts on everyday life.

The building itself is a work of art, and is actually a recreation of an ancient Roman country house. Can you imagine yourself living in a building such as this?

There are also beautiful gardens that you can enjoy when you need some fresh air to digest all of what you have seen and learnt.

Where art and history come to life!
