About this activity

Dakota Zoo has been giving families memorable days out since it began in 1961. With only 15 acres, the doors opened onto only 75 mammals and 23 birds.

Now, many families later, Dakota Zoo covers a whopping 90 acres, and have over 600 animals! That's pretty cool! There are 125 species represented at the zoo, so there is plenty for the kids to learn about!

Have you ever seen the teeth of a Mountain Lion, or seen the colorful head of the Sandhill Crane? Kids can check out the alligators just lounging around, or take photos of those beautiful tigers!

At Dakota Zoo, the kids won't just be learning about the animals, their habits and their habitats, but also of conservation and of those animals who are endangered. Creatures like the Snow Leopard can give them an insight into why we need to look after our animals, as well as learn about what is being done to protect them!

The Discovery Center is a place all kids should visit at Dakota Zoo. Here, there are hands-on displays, as well as aquariums, and computers where they can continue their education on the natural world!

If they have a bit of energy they can always run and enjoy the large playground just outside! There are gardens to stroll through, and even trains! Yep! And you thought it was just all animals!

There are two trains which can give you a fun 30 minute rides through the zoo itself. Check out what wildlife you might spot on this experience just for choo..ooops, we mean YOU!

Dakota Zoo also have incredible experiences that you can get involved in, from breakfast at the zoo and even an annual Children's Day with races, prizes and games!

Amazing fun! And you thought it was just animals!
