About this activity

Before you even step foot in The Cabildo Museum, you are already surrounded by a rich and fascinating history! Located in the iconic Jackson Square, the Cabildo Museum neighbors St Louis Cathedral, AND it was the site of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803!

Once inside the museum, you are able to explore rare and authentic artifacts relating to the early history of the city. There are three floors of exhibits within the museum celebrate the history and culture through documents, paintings, and even 3D objects.

Kids can learn all about the Battle of New Orleans, with an emphasis on the diversity of those who were part of it, and see how the battle has been remembers, commemorated and represented.

Also within the museum you can see items that are quintessentially New Orleans, from Sidney Bechet's actual saxophone, to a Mardi Grad Indian suit, and memorabilia from Pontchartrain Beach.

Picture the city 300 years ago too with the Mapping the Crescent exhibit, showcasing the evolution of the city around the grand Mississippi River.
