You might want to leave some time for this family day out attraction, because the South Carolina State Museum is the state's LARGEST and most comprehensive museum, and that is pretty impressive!
Located along the banks beautiful Congaree River, the South Carolina State Museum features four very large floors of exhibits that cover art, history, natural history and science / technology from within the state.
In fact, when it comes to history, you don't even have to look any further than the building itself, as the museum is located in the historic Columbia Mills building, which opened in 1894 as the world's first totally electric textile mill. Pretty cool!
Kids can explore exhibits covering pre-historic fossils, and yes kids, that includes dinosaurs! There are artifacts from the Revolutionary War as well as the Civil War, and some great learning opportunities on African American history.
Did we mention that you can also meet Finn, their giant pre-historic megalodon shark repilica!?
Also at the South Carolina State Museum is an out of this world experience at the 55ft dome planetarium, where you can go on a journey through the deepest reaches of space.
