About this activity

Choo Choo! Get those conductor hats on, because the Skunk Train is about to depart!

The Skunk Train is a great way for kids to not only have a super fun train ride, but they can also see some incredible parts of Northern California. In fact, they can experience 40 miles of railroad that takes them through Redwood forests, mountain waters and meadows too!

There are two departure points for the Skunk Train - from Fort Bragg, and also Willits - and no matter which departure point you choose, you will still get to experience the amazing views, which can be found along the coastal "Redwood Route".

In fact, this route hasn't changed since all the way back in 1885 - that's pretty impressive! Don't forget to watch out for the wildlife, you might just spot a deer drinking from the Noyo River. Blink and you might miss the fisherman's cabin peeking out from the forest too!

It really is a beautiful adventure if you want to get away from the city and get into nature. You will be surrounded by wildlife, from egrets, to blue heron and even the lounging turtles.

Skunk Train offers a number of train experiences too - so you can choose what suits you best! Why not take the family on a Sunset BBQ, or take the train to spend the night camping! There are seasonal activities like the Easter Egg Hunt train, or you can celebrate fall on the Pumpkin Express.

Sounds pretty spectacular!

So grab those conductor hats and climb aboard because the Skunk Train is about to depart! Choo Choo!

Skunk Train FAQ’s

While the Skunk Train has a concession aboard all of its trips, they do make a stop for lunch at Northspur Station. Here at Northspur you will find freshly made and prepared food.

If you ride in the Open Air, wear dark clothing because your lighter clothing might get soot on it! Also, you can bring dogs!

They have a fun line of souvenirs including clothing (sweatshirts, t-shirts, jackets), hats, books, glasses, pins, and kids train related toys.

The Skunk Train is committed to education. Our School on Rails program along with information about the Redwood Eco system are available for classes from kindergarten through high school. Pretty cool!

We try to incorporate healthy snack food in our operation, but if you have dietary requirements or allergies you can bring your own food

The train is accessible but there are limitations as they were built in the 1900s.
