About this activity

There are some really magical places in California, and places which are really great to take the family for a fun and nature filled day out. Six Rivers National Forest is one of those magical places!

Located in northwest California, the Six Rivers National Forest covers over 1 million acres of beautiful forest - just over 900,000 of those are protected National Forest acres.

The great thing about a forest, is that your family can make the experience as adventurous or as relaxing as you like!

Feeling a little adventurous? Then the Salmon River might just be for you. Since the 1980's it has been a premier destination for whitewater rafting, with 14 whole miles of Class IV and V rapids. If you are more of a "land" family, the national forest have hundreds of miles of trails which can be accessed by Mountain Bike. Fun trails which are rocky and hilly, which wind through the open grass ands and pine forests. Sounds like quite an adventure!

For a bit more of a relaxing adventure, fishing is a hugely popular sport in the Six Rivers National Forest. It's regulated to fish on all of the lakes, streams and rivers within the forest. For those horse lovers, there is horseback riding in the park, and even horse camping. An amazing experience!

There are amazing picnic spots to enjoy some family time, and viewing areas to really just enjoy the view. It's also a great opportunity for kids to really learn about the environment, and all the flora and fauna.

A fantastic, relaxing, adventurous, fun and family friendly experience in a beautiful part of Californian nature!
