About this activity

It's all about history at California's Sharpsteen Museum, home to permanent exhibits designed to present the history of the upper Napa Valley from pre-history, right through to post World War I .

The emphasis within the exhibits are the people and changes brought by the period of US emigration and development

Sounds like quite an educational experience!

In addition to its many historical exhibits, the Sharpsteen Museum uses unique and extraordinarily extensive dioramas to depict Calistoga during its time as the elegant 1860s Hot Springs resort - which was quite a time in its past!

The area was developed by pioneer, promoter, publisher, entrepreneur, and California's first millionaire, Sam Brannan, so you can learn all about his story too!

The museum also has some kid friendly things to do as well, including a Geyser pop up exhibit where they can turn the crank to see the geyser in action, as well as an electric train exhibit and 30ft diorama depicting the town when it was first built!

Special exhibits which change quarterly reflect the varied interests of the people of the Valley, and have ranged from antique silverware; to model ships, to historical musical instruments.

A trip through the history book at the Sharpsteen Museum!
