About this activity

Did you know that the Rosamond Gifford Zoo at Burnet Park has been voted among the top 10% of zoos in the entire country?

Well, why don't we visit and see for ourselves!

Established back in 1914, the Rosamond Gifford Zoo started out as 4 small acres. Today, it's grown to 43 acres, and is home to over 700 animals from all over the world!  From the smallest reptile, to the largest of mammals, the zoo brings the amazing animals of the world right to your feet.

60% of the exhibits are indoors, so even on those cooler days you can still get out and have a WILD day.

Perhaps you want to start in the USS Antiquities exhibit, where reptiles, amphibians and fish can all be found. Kids can walk through the submarine cave to learn how life forms have changed over time, and even explore those plants and animals that are around today.

Don't miss the only giant Pacific octopus in the cave entrance - it's the only one in upstate New York!

Your adventure continues through the aviary, where you can spot birds of all different colors, sizes and shapes. It's also a free-flight aviary so you can really see them in their element!

Next on our adventure at Rosamond Gifford Zoo is Adaptation, where the family can learn all about nocturnal animals, and how they have inherited their features over time! Have you heard of a naked mole rate or sloth? Check them out!

Of course, what would a zoo be without those BIG mammals, so let's head to Africa! You can come face to face with those grand lions, and playful primates. Kids can see the wonders of Asia with the Asian elephants, and even see some playful penguins as the dive and swim in front of you.

Make sure you end your day at the fun Domestic Animal Barn where kids can really get up close to those familiar animals such as barn owls, bunnies and ponies.

So much animal fun to be had, it's a great reason to see for yourself why it's in the top 10% of zoos in the country! It's time to get WILD!
