About this activity

Ready to embrace the history of Northeast Montana? Great, because we're off to the Valley County Pioneer Museum, and it's FILLED with history ready for you to discover!

Did you know that the Valley County Pioneer Museum is home to the LARGEST Assiniboine collection in the country? (Kids, the Assiniboine are Native American peoples originally from the Northern Great Plains!)  What an excellent way to start your historic family day out, with such a culturally important collection!

But that's not all you'll find in the museum, as there are historic railway and agricultural displays, AND you can see the creation of Fort Peck Dam!

Do you know about Lewis and Clark? Well, they were very important to the region, and the museum also features exhibits on their journey, and of course, a whole section on cowboys - we are in Montana, after all!

Wildlife of the region is not overlooked, with an exhibit filled with wildlife mountains, artifacts, furs and antlers, and a highlight is the Buffalo Bill Cody Bar, that still sports a bullet hole from the Wild West!)

Kids can see what a one room schoolhouse looked like back in the 1930s, see what life in the region was like in the 1800s, and visit a street scene from 1915!

We feel like we haven't even begun to scratch the surface on what there is to explore at the Valley County Pioneer Museum, so the best thing to do is to go and see for yourselves!
