About this activity

Pana`ewa Rainforest Zoo & Gardens is located in Hilo on the island of Hawaii, and is the only natural tropical rainforest zoo in the United States! Pretty amazing!

Set across 12-acres, the zoo and gardens are home to more than 80 animal species from all over the world!

This means you can come face to face with Giant Anteaters, American Alligators and Bengal Tigers, cheeky primates, adorable lemurs, and more!

All of the exhibits within Pana'ewa Rainforest Zoo and Gardens are also designed to maximize and blend with the natural vegetation of the Pana‘ewa Forest Reserve, which means you're really enjoying a special day out in nature!

The learning experiences won't stop throughout the day, as kids will also see endemic animals like the endangered ‘Io (Hawaiian Hawk), and the Pueo (Hawaiian Owl) and the state bird, Nene.

Just take a relaxing stroll along paved paths surrounded by a lush landscape of trees and plants stopping along the way to view the many zoo animals. Keep a look out for the Zoo's Discovery Forests, too!

At the water-garden pond you may even spot a bullfrog on a lily-pad too - so keep those eyes peeled!

So have a WILD day out in the lust forests of tropical Hawaii, where the animals are waiting to say hello, the gardens are ready for exploring, and the adventure is ready to begin!
