About this activity

History is fun when you read it from the books, but it really comes to life when you can VISIT the place you're reading about!

The Old Stone House Museum is a fascinating trip out for the day, located in the very cool sounding Northeast Kingdom Village. Set on 55 acres, the Old Stone House Museum has six buildings that you can explore, which don't seem to have changed since when they were built - all the way back in the early 1800s!

The town itself is an intriguing place to explore, as the quaint hillside town is centered around a huge stone dormitory called Anthenian Hall. It was built by a man called Alexander Twilight, who was actually the nations first African-American college graduate and state legislator! How amazing is that!

It's facts like that, that will allow kids to see how far we really have come!

This amazing stone house has 21 rooms which are filled with exhibits that you can explore, that focus on what life would have been like in Northern Vermont in the 19th Century. Kids - can you imagine what it would have been like? (They didn't have iphones!)

With four floors to explore, on textiles, photographs, pottery, art, and furniture, along with two more historic houses and a traditional barn, you really get to feel what daily life was all about.

The tours are very casual too, so when you arrive the tour will begin! It can't get more friendly and casual than that!

Kids won't realise they are learning at the Old Stone House Museum - but they will take a lot home with them!
